At New Frontier, we expect a lot from our Commanding Officers.
This is not a group where we are eager to give away ships. Rather
we want only qualified and dedicated individuals in charge of our simms.
There is a lot more to being in the center seat than is even seen during
the actual role playing. The list below will hopefully detail what
our expectations of a Commanding Officer is. I don't think you will
find anything unreasonable.
1. Protect the integrity and ideals of New Frontier. You
will be the individual that sees each and every post for your ship.
It is your responsibility to make sure that the posting and character development
remains in line with the spirit of Star Trek, and the New Frontier.
If problems arise, you must address them and find an agreeable solution.
2. Recruit, Recruit, Recruit. The Fleet Admirals will do
a lot of recruiting for New Frontier, but each CO is expected to recruit
for their own ships. The players are the heart of your group, and
you simply can not have enough. Each ship must have 5 people, not counting
the CO, on board before they can begin simming on their own. During
the building phase you will be assigned to simm at either Starbase 14,
or with an experienced crew in a joint mission.
3. Post no less than twice a week. You are, after all, the
head person and your people will take their lead from you. If you
are not a regular poster, your crew won't be either.
4. Manage the simms, but don't control them. Basically you
want to put out the beginning and the end of each mission, but allow your
crew to develop the heart of it. This encourages them to get involved,
and lightens your load some.
5. Mentor your crew, especially the new players. Work with
them, answer their questions (and there will be some with a million questions),
direct them to the information they need, analyze posting formats, etc.
Provide encouragement and positive feedback to the crew members that are
doing well. It will make them want to continue to do well.
6. Design and maintain a website for your ship. This does not
have to be a big flashy site. Our "flash" should be in our simms.
But it should be a nice clean site that provides the information necessary.
The better your site looks, the more effective your recruiting will be.
7. Educate your crew and build a team spirit. Even a position
as the 5th Security Guard can be fun if they are involved and appreciated.
The more education the crew has the better. Take advantage of the
Fleet Department Heads as they continue to provide new information and
ideas in their area of expertise.
8. Communicate with your superior's on a regular basis.
None of us have all the answers, but we are here to help make your life
easier.
9. Complete and return the reports on time. Each month you
will be required to send in a report about your ship. This will enable
the Fleet Admirals to know how things are going, make suggestions, and
help you fill available positions.
10. Vote for New Frontier on all the top sites we have listed.
This is not an absolute requirement but simply put, the higher we are on
those lists, the more people are going to find us, the more people we will
have, the more crew you will have....... Need I say more?
11. In the event that the Fleet Admirals need to step into a situation,
you are expected, after giving us your opinions, to follow the orders given
to you. Hopefully this will be a very rare occurrence.
12. Treat all crew members with the utmost respect, and be impartial
in your promotions and awards, as well as any punishment you need to deal
with.
13. Subscribe to and participate in the New Frontier CO Forum.
This is where you can interact with the Admirals and your other CO's. It
is also where we will post new ideas, problems, and any changes that have
been made.
14. Make sure that your crew is having fun. If they aren't
enjoying themselves, your ship and New Frontier will get a bad reputation.
These rules may be changed and adjusted at any point and time.
When/If a change is made, a message will be sent to the CO list.
Your feedback and suggestions for these responsibilities are welcome and
encouraged.
If you have read, and agree to follow, these simple rules, and feel
you are upto the challenge of commanding a ship in the New Frontier, please
apply
for a position.
