Chapter 1. The Application
The first thing that your prospective Commanding Officer is going to
see is your application. This is your opportunity to make a very
good, or very bad, first impression. Which would you prefer to make?
In order to make a good impression, there really is very little that
needs to be done. By taking your time and answering the questions
completely, you are showing your prospective CO that you are detail oriented,
willing to do what is asked, and dedicated to being a valuable asset to
the crew.
On the other hand, a hastily filed out application will give the CO
the impression that you are not serious, that this is a waste of time in
your opinion, and that you may not be the type of player that they are
looking for. The choice is yours.
Once you have completed your application, proofread it. An application
filed with spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors will reflect poorly
on the applicant. It is also a very good idea to save a copy of your
application in case something happens to it during the process. Email
is not perfect by any stretch, and things have been known to get lost or
accidentally deleted.
After you have submitted your application, do not pester the CO.
We understand you are eager to get started, but there are going to be times
when the CO is busy with other things, may be having computer problems,
or may be on vacation. Each of the CO’s in New Frontier have committed
themselves to responding to applications as quickly as possible, and have
a goal of no more than 48 hours. But again, life gets in the way
of these plans from time to time. If after 5 days you have still
not gotten a response from the CO of the ship you wanted to join, please
don’t think that it’s because they don’t like you. At this point,
you are more than welcome to email the Fleet Admiral and I will look into
it personally.
